Thanks for the link. I've heard heard one clip of Josh's playing with Sting as of yet. The video seems to be slow in terms of loading, but Ill be patient. Is it worth the wait?
My comments:
-I really liked the tom-groove he's playing. Extremely solid and I certainly couldn't pull it off like that.
-I feel as though he has dragging the beat a little during the verse. Are my ears playing tricks on me? Seems he's slightly at some point and I mean beyond creating a pocket
-He's really going for it! Check out how he smacks that snare. His arm goes way above his head!

Yeah very cool "rock-out" performance here and he even got rid of the splashes and octobans to focus more energy on the rock factor.
Yeah Susperia, he's doing a bit of a "Kenny Arnof" on the snare.
Looks like me last night

Not bad, but not the Police. It didn't drive like Copeland used to drive things, IMO, with that agression.
I'd pay 50 bucks to see that show in concert though.

Really?!?! I thought Josh kicked the shit out of this tune.... This is what Sting NEEDED to get back to, IMO. I felt like a corpse listening to the Sacred Love album... That was Awesome - I LOVE that raw, rambunctious flavor. This would be a concert worth going to.

I'm with Benrand on this one. Surely a show worth seeing, but in honesty even though Josh is really doing a good job, Stings best drummers so far have been Stewart C. and Vinnie C. IMO!

Indeed Benny - Sacred Love is not his best work.
'This War' (real drums) is the best track IMHO.
Vinnie, Stew C & Omar are the drummers I prefer with StingO.

I'm with Jeppe and Benrand.
TBH the moment the video stopped, I jumped out of the chair and put on that live 79 from Boston. It was such a relief hearing the tension between Sting and Stewart. It's like love made out of deep hatred between those two guys, it's the beauty of an endless struggle, on a muscial level, to achieve complete domination of the tune!!
Essentially this should not happen on a level that Josh Freese is working on, but if it happened ( and i slightly feel it too! ), that Josh loosened the groove a bit, it would be much more preferable that he speeded up instead of down!
Josh is playing great, but that tune is just crying for some raw ripping punk insanity!

I was being a bit facetious in that other post/thread...but, I watched it again & liked it...altho the orig is the more formative/indicative version [naturally]...but it was still kind of cool. He hadn't done that one in a long time, at least from what I've seen...
Josh is a fine drummer & is doing a good job no doubt [besides, he wouldn't be there otherwise], but I'm also w ben, jeppe, ashio, & klemme AW here.
They need to "turn off the click" mindset if they're going to authentically try to replicate those Police tunes , which are indeed a little more raw & full of life & breathing. It was exactly that love[?!]-hate[!] relationship betwixt Gord & Stew that made that music so great & refreshing!!...ALA they didn't kill [or maim] each other
Eh, all JMO. WTH do i know...

Good on ya Fuse, I agree.
I mean, what is music without passion, tension and excitement? In one of old Stew's interviews he said 'the show was always exciting' when referring to the Police concerts.
With 2 very headstrong, stubborn personalities like Sting and Stew C, the result was always going to be EXCITING.
